Age of Opportunity Conference

Friday, October 8th from 7pm-9:15pm & Saturday, October 9th from 9am-Noon

At CC Philly, 13500 Philmont Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19116, the Age of Opportunity Parenting Seminar with Paul Tripp.

The cost to attend the two days is $10 a person, $15 a couple.

To register for the conference click here.

Are teenage hassles disruptive to parents’ lives, or are they prime opportunity to connect with, listen to, and nurture our kids? From the argument over the last donut, to the cry of “nothing to wear,” Paul Tripp uncovers the heart issues affecting parents and their teenagers during the often chaotic adolescent years.

With wit, wisdom, humility, and compassion, he shows parents how to seize the countless opportunities to deepen communication, learn, and grow with their teenagers. The teenage years are often viewed by parents as a period to be survived. This parenting conference departs from that mentality and describes these tumultuous years as years of boundless possibilities and promise. It will give you biblical wisdom, goals, and strategies for parenting during this often trying phase of life.

Parents of younger children are also strongly encouraged attend the conference. The teaching on sin, discipline, and gospel application are crucial for even the earliest “age of opportunity” in the raising of our children.

Unveiled

Unveiled  - authentic lives in a plastic world

November 12-13, 2010

for girls 12-24 and the women in their lives

Unveiled  grew out of conversations between friends and colleagues that often included the phrase “if I had only known”—if I had known... how much God loves me... I was believing a lie... how to seek after God’s heart and learn to trust Him. Our desire is to be used by God to empower young women to live authentic lives of freedom and truth in the midst of  a “plastic” world. Be part of a weekend filled with music, great speakers, interactive breakout sessions, a fashion show, and food!

Conference Schedule:

Friday night: 7:00-9:00pm

  • music
  • main session with Ingrid DeSanctis
  • dessert bar

Saturday: 8:30am–4:30pm

  • continental breakfast
  • music
  • 2 main sessions with Dannah Gresh
  • lunch"what are they thinking?" session**
  • “the look for less” fashion show (less money. less skin.)
  • 2 breakout sessions (choose at time of registration)

**what are they thinking? This session will be a unique time for honest questions and answers about things you want to know but never felt like you could ask a guy. We hope to shed light on what the male population thinks about life, love and dating, along with things that are most important to them. Come with questions you may have! With a panel of guys of all different age ranges, we hope to get some answers.

How To Apply

Written by Daniel Simrak

So you think you want to go on this year's mission trip? That's great. There's just a couple things you need to do to make that happen.

  1. The first thing you need to do is pray about it. Wanting to go on a mission trip is a good thing but it's also a really big thing. You need to pray and ask God if this is something He wants you to do. You may find that you don't get an "Ah-ha!" moment after praying, that's ok, the important thing is that you be flexible to do what God wants you to do.
  2.

  3. The next thing you should do is talk to your parents. While you might not think that they always understand you, God has given you your parents and he says that you are to honor them. A simple way to honor them is to talk to them about this trip. Let them know why you think you should go and listen to what they have to say about it.
  4.

  5. Provided you haven't hit any roadblocks, you are now at the point where you are ready to apply. In order to apply you need to first register with the website.* You might think that's kinda silly cause all you want to do is apply for the trip, but we have our reasons. This year, all financial updates will be given on the website. So that way you can find out where you stand in regards to raising money for the trip.
  6.

  7. Now that you have registered, you are ready to fill out the application. If you look at the menu on the left you'll see the link to "Apply." When you click the link it will bring you to the application. Fill it out as best you can. You need to have an answer for everything. But don't worry, you can go back later and update it, but for now we need all of your answers.
  8.

  9. After you apply, a leader will contact you to set up a time to meet with you and your parents to talk about the trip and to pray.
  10.

  11. After the meeting, if we all feel that your involvement on the trip is a good thing, you'll get your missions binder in preparation for meeting #1.
  12.

While it may seem like a big process it's not too bad and we'll walk you through the whole way. If you have any questions, you can email us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

*Registering with the website is a two step process. After you fill out the registration form, you will need to confirm your email address. Registration is not complete until the email address is verified.

Jobs Board

This is a new opportunity. In the fellowship area of the church, youth ministry will have a bulletin board dedicated to youth missions. On this board, you will be able to post jobs that you are willing to do to raise money.

For example:

I'm earning money for my trip this summer to the DR. I am willing to help with yard work, wash your car or even wax your floors.

Then just add some tabs with your name and phone number for people to take that are interested.

Please note, it is up to you and your parents to coordinate this opportunity.

If you have a listing that you would like to post, please give it to Dan or email it to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

DR Trip 2010

Written by Daniel Simrak

We will be going to Barahona, DR a 3-4 hour drive west of Santo Domingo. The host of this trip is Calvary Chapel Delta (www.ccdeltapa.org) they began working in the DR a few years ago. They have housing and 3 people who are on staff full time. We will be helping and co-laboring with them. We will be ministering in poorer areas doing VBS, street witnessing and various building projects.

When:

July 15 – July 26, 2010.

Who can go:

The trip is open to Senior High age students in grades 9 -12 who have accepted Jesus as their Savior. These students must be willing to step outside of their comfort zone and allow God to use them in a great way.

So things we'll be doing include:

  • Puppets
  • Drama
  • VBS
  • Building Projects
  • Street Witnessing

Trip Requirements: Everyone that wants to go on this trip must:

  1. Have accepted Jesus as their Savior and have a relationship with Him.
  2. Be willing to share their testimony and the Gospel
  3. Submit to authority
  4. Be willing to serve

Lodging:

We will be staying in two different houses to accommodate the group. The one is a house owned by CC Delta the other is a house owned by a partner church in Barahona. Beds are provided but you will need to bring your own bedding.

Clothing:

Modesty is important and should be kept in mind while packing. Because of their culture, guys should be prepared to wear long-pants and ladies to wear skirts to attend church. Shorts and t-shirts are acceptable at all other times.
Don’t bring any flashy jewelry, clothes with logos and advertisements. Simple like Old Navy is ok; remember what you wear is physical representation of who you are.
You need to bring closed toes shoes (sneakers) and it is recommended that you bring water shoes for when we go to the beach. You can bring flip flops but you may be required to wear shoes when ministering.

Cost:

$950. This includes room & board, transportation and supplies for ministry. There will be fundraisers to help offset this cost.
(If parents are interested in helping with the fundraisers, we would welcome it!)

Next Steps:

If you are interested in this trip you have until March 3 to apply.

Space Monkey Strangling Craze

Written by Daniel Simrak

Just thought I throw this out to all of you.

I just read an article about a new teen sensation. I know you are probably thinking something along the lines of tween superstars like Hannah Montana or the Jo Bros, but this one is a little different.

This new craze is all about getting high by strangling yourself and then posting the videos online. Youth are doing it thinking that they'll get high but without any real side effects. The truth is, this sort of thing is very dangerous.

You can check out the link here.

Richard Dawkins on Colbert Nation

How do I describe this video? I don't think that there is any easy way. It's funny. It's deep. It's challenging and it's inspiring to say the least. Richard Dawkins was a guest on Stephen Colbert's show plugging his new book on evolution. Colbert not to be put down, comes on strong and offer a humorous while straight to the point rebuttal. It's definitely worth watching

Ideas Have Consequences

Have you ever heard someone say that they have the right to believe whatever they want to? That they can think what they want and act how they want? Well, the truth of the matter is that ideas do in fact have consequences. In this short video, you'll get a taste for how it plays out. As a side note, it's pretty intense.
